The truth is out there!
Here's what I have:

NTK
SM57s
NT5 pair
fat head pair
MK319 pair

I want something new. Suggestions?

I want it for guitar cabs, vocals, and acoustic guitars. It doesn't have to be one mic for all of them, maybe what you like for each.

The usual suspects:
SM7b
RE-EV20 (moresound?)
AT 4050

I've got a bunch of new pres, and I've noticed how much having the different flavors helps, now I need some new mics.
Thanks!

Well, you've already answered a good part of your own question. Upgrade your dynamic, for starters, and you have selected some winners. A multi-pattern LD condenser. I like AKG C414, but there's no reason why AT4050 or Shure KSM44 won't work just fine. And my personal favorite cheap swiss army mic, AKG C2000B, which absolutely rocks on cabs, assorted percussion, acoustic instruments, and is a fair vocal mic.-Richie

You better believe it!!!!

But check out the EV RE27N/D and the new EV RE320!

And another new microphone that I've had my eye on is the Sennheiser MK-4 ... and let's not forget about the old standard the Sennheiser MD421

I'll stop for now. :D

Wait! one more thing ... Richard is right about the AKG C2000B, it's an unsung hero.

Cool, thanks.

I'm putting together a wish list right now. I've been doing some odd jobs and getting a few hundred dollars here and there that will all be going toward mics. A good dynamic mic is first on my list.

In order, here's what I'm thinking:

AT 4050
SM7b
RE-EV20

Then maybe MD421 and AKG C2000B

Hey Aaron your list is upside down!:D

And on another note ..... what do you have for micpres?
For a few of those microphones are going to require a micpre with tons of clean gain.

For pres I've got: RNP, GAP pre-73, SCA A12 (pair) N72 (pair) T15 (pair)...and assorted other junk I don't use...even the pres on my Saffire Pro 40 have a lot of clean gain. All of these pres are super nice and have TONS of gain. I can drive my Fat Head with the A12 (API clone) set pretty low if I need to.

there's a spate of md421-n and md421-2 on ebay at the minute.(the ivory ones)
Can't remember the seller name, but they're goin for about £150-£180.

Great price for a fantastic mic.....even if i did get my pair for £107 :P:P:P

A used Electro Voice 635a omni will cost you next to nothing, and a nice addition. Nice on cabs, room etc.

You don't mention a $$ ceiling, so I am going to suggest you listen to a Neumann TLM 103. Very detailed sound, and useful for lots of sources in my opinion.
