adding comp and reverb in computer

I have a sm 57 and a fostex mr-8 multi-tracker. I will use the mic for recording amps, drums, and maybe vocals. I was wondering if it will sound fine if I record straigt from the mic to the recorder(for vocals). Then I would dump it all on the computer and add effects like compression and reverb. I have acid pro 4 and I was planning to do this with acid. Will this sound fine? Can I do the same for guitar. I think the answer is yes for these questions, but I am new at this. Thanks!
 
yes, as long as it isnt clipping or you cut all the eq or something.............................
 
sure is. just make sure you aren't compensating for low volume/overly dynamic levels after they've been recorded, thats when you get into trouble with compression. get a good, strong signal when recording all of your sources and you should be okay.

Yeah thats a problem because I always get really low volume from the mr8. Can I do anything about this besides buying a preamp?
 
The preamps on the mr8 are not very good and you usually have to crank the trim to get a good level. You could buy a preamp or a small mixer for very cheap that will improve your recordings a good deal.
 
If you have only gotten a half-strong signal in the tracking maximize the sound to about 90 percent and then start applying the compression and reverb.
