ive had an md8 for quite some time now,,, its a nice piece of equiptment. I just got an effects processor and i figured out how to use the aux send,, but,,,,
when i send it out ,,,, how do i get it back to that track? what input should i use? ive been just inputing it to a seperate track as. how do i "apply" the effects to the same track im using? please help me.

You're half way there. As you have already done, connect the aux send to the input of your effects processor. Connect the output of your effects processor to one of the line inputs 9, 10, 11 or 12 on your MD8. Turn up the gain knobs 9-10 or 11-12 depending on which line input you've chosen. Now all 8 channels can have varying amounts of effect mixed into each channel by simply adjusting the aux gain 1 or 2 found in the row of knobs for each channel.

If you want a more coherent step by step instruction, review page 48 of your manual.

Yo TJ of the Junior Grade:

Follow the above directions. Also, 9/10 returns on your MD8 will feed into the #1 purple knob next to last to the bottom of all the knobs on the mixer board; right below that is #2 and 11/12 feeds will let you use TWO EFFECTS boxes if you choose; I have two boxes and often mix or blend both into the feed. Just something more for you to play around with.

I'm no expert here and I don't have an MD8 but on my MD4 the aux sends are used to add effects to tracks which are already recorded when you are mixing them down and you monitor them from the stereo bus. To add effects to tracks and have that effect recorded you connect the effect to the insert jack on the recording track and get the effect sounding OK before you record the track. You can't alter it later. The insert jacks can also add effects to individual tracks at mixdown but only to the track that the effect is attached to. Aux's are good for when you want to add varying amounts of the same effect to different tracks. I hope the MD8 has inserts or this will have been little help.

If you're using a mono effect, you can bring in back into any of the tracks just by plugging it into the input for that track. You can then control the effect using either the top or bottom part of the line strip depending on the setting of the flip switch.
If you use the 9/10/11/12 line inputs, then you need to turn up the blue knob for the pair you are using, assign it to a pair of groups by presing one of the group buttons, turn up the group master knobs for the groups you are using. If you want to record this signal you will have to do a group record.
For either of the above methods you should set the effect mix in the effect unit to 100% wet or select dry defeat on.

If you use the inserts for applying effects as you record the signal you will have to set the effect mix in the effect unit and you will not be able to change it later.

I'm no expert but I've read that it is best to apply effects at mixdown becouse what sounds like the right amount of reverb or whatever when you record the track, may not sound right once you have all the other tracks recorded. it's best to apply an effect to the track, but not record it while you are recording the track (i.e. not use the insert) so you can hear what it will sound like and then apply the effect for real at mixdown.

Hope this helps. If you are still stuck, then reply to this and I will try to help some more.
