I have a Dell Dimension 4100 733mhz 133 bus, ATA Ultra 100, 256 SDRAM, 40GB 7200 rpm, Sound Blaster Live Value.

I am a newbie and have been playing around with a copy of Orchestrator Pro that was given to me. I decided to buy a second hard drive to use exclusively for recording. So I bought a Western Digital 30GB 7200 rpm which I have yet to install.

What would be the recommended way of setting this up in conjunction with my Teac 12X cd-rw, 40x CD-Rom, and main 40GB harddrive? (master, slave, primary, secondary, etc.)

I would like to do so in a way that is optimal to using the cd-rw I suppose. Obviously, I will be using it to copy cds, back up data, and also burn audio cds from my Orchestrator Pro.

Also, I use Nero 5.0 and In-CD. Which harddrive should I load these on, or should I (can I) load them on both? (I have no idea if it matters or not).

I am totally new to using 2 hard drives, so any tips would be welcome. I had to debug and f-disk my computer yesterday to be sure I was rid of a worm, so I am hoping to get all the software loaded back on and get this up and running this weekend.

Thanks a million.

Main HDD - Primary master
CD-RW - Primary slave
Audio HDD - Secondary master
CD - Secondary slave.

Use the main HDD for everything but the audio data and use the other for audio data only. Your music SW should go on the main HDD with the rest of the programs.

And if you're burning non-audio stuff, you might find it advantageous to dump the stuff to burn onto the audio HDD first instead of straight off the main HDD (assuming you're using Ola's configuration)

Yep, you want to make sure that you don't read and write on the same IDE channel at the same time. Thus, when you use the CD burner, you want to read the data from the other IDE channel so that's why you should have the CD devices (for "CD to CD" copy) on different channels and also why you should use the HDD on the other channel for the data you want to burn (for "HDD to CD" copy).
