I've been doing a lot more recoding lately (practicing at least) and I feel the need to buy a few more mics. Currently, I have a pair of SM57s, an MC012a (cardioid) and an AT3035. I'm looking to add a couple more LD condensers (the SP-B1 and MXL67G). Eventually, I'd like to buy a couple non-budget mics but I'd rather spend the cash on a couple decent pres for now.
My question is this: what is your favorite LD condenser for micing fingerstyle acoustic guitar? And placement?
I love my AT3035 for my vocals but I just can't find a sweet spot for my guitars (Taylor 414K and Lowden O25). I listened to the ListeningSessions and the MXL67 sounded pretty good to me. I'm also planning on picking up a pair of MXL603S so I have lots of options. Both guitars also have pickups installed (a Matrix and I-Beam respectively). :D

Options is right. Don't know about the v67 but you might like the 603s on your guitar (did you try the mc012?). Then again you might like the B1. Good luck in your quest. :)

My favorite LD for mic'ing fingerstyle guitar- No question. AKG C414 B-ULS. If you want to hear uncompressed, no reverb, no EQ, check this link-

Tracks 1,2,4,6,8,12 all done with a single C414B-ULS on the 12th fret of a Taylor 710CE. Acoustic lead tracks were mic'd the same way. Probably my favorite guitar work is "Requiem".-Richie

i like the v67 on acoustic but all this is subjective and a matter of personal taste.....maybe to save money also, try to get another MC012 to match yours instead of getting a pair of 603's.......

i think youll be happy with a combo of your MC012 over the shoulder and the v67 out front on acoustic....

I think the Marshall MXL603S is one of the best budget mic's on the market for recording acoustic instruments like guitar... they're a little brighter sounding than your MC-012 which would make them a good choice for your mic locker... you don't need a bunch of mic's that all sound the same... you need different sounding mic's. With my D35 I like placing the MXL603S at about the 12 fret, 3 inches away from the neck and pointing back at where the neck meets the body, just under the neck and more towards the back rather than the front.
