HI All

I was wondering how someone would go about recording with a single XT20 and a PC with a soundcard(lexicon core 2) featuring an ADAT interface. I am not as dumb as I sound. At least I hope not. :p

Anyway, this is my scenario: I live in an apartment in which I cannot record drums and guitar tracks due to the noise. I, therefore, need to be able to record at least eight tracks at my drummer's house. I have carried my pc, but I won't do that again. I was hoping to be able to record eight tracks to ADAT, dump them to pc to mix/edit. I can handle all of this so far, but what if I want to record another guitar track or some percussion? I thought about mixing that previous tracks down to one or two and sending those back to the ADAT. So now I can go record more tracks, right? What I don't get is how I would dump the new and mixed down tracks back into the pc and stay on time with the first, non-mixed tracks. Does that make any sense? I do not want to keep the first tracks mixed down but I do want to sync up the new tracks with the first eight I recorded.

Please help, I am very lost.

*Note to sonusman - I currently have a mackie mixer but am trading it in on a soundcraft next week :)

I hope i understand

If I understand corectly you want to have at the end ..8 tracks of drums and the percussion and guitar additional to the 8 tracks right?.

You can use the expensive way by using some sync box

or go the poor mans way and record a 4 beat click at the start of every track, use it as a reference for your beat and then when you dump it into your Pc' just line up the clicks in editor and you've got it synced.

poor man!

You got it right Shailat. ;) I will probably use different combinations of tracks, but ultimatly I want to sync the ADAT with my computer and have two tapes of ADAT tracks.I am in the process of trying out the poor man's way now. If you know where to find an inexpensive sync box let me know. The poor man's way is hard! :)

Why hard? just cut on each track until the first click and shove it to the beggining.

it was only hard the first time. I have since learned to double check the bpm of the click tracks. they don't sync up if one is at 120 bpm and the others are at 100 bpm! ;)
