I have been given the oppertunity to purchase two adat machines for what i think is a really good price!!! They have low head hours and look in great condition. But there is a problem!!!

they are two used Alesis LX20 ADAT eight track recorders. The units only have 202 and 204 hours on them. they are being sold with their reference manuals and a little remote controller (possibly two if the seller can ever find the other one!), he has said to me that, one unit either needs a service or calibration (or just a good set up?). When he last used the units together for a live recording (October last year) the units recorded fine, but simultaneous playback for some reason was a problem, the units would not run in sync, but both recordings were fine. I'm fairly sure its nothing serious - but I'm not an expert.

does anyone know what the problem is?? Is it something to do with the sync cable being faulty??

I would be greatful for any help as he wont wait for a decision from me for much longer!!! Thankyou in advance.

Could be a bad sync cable - but could also easily be bad formatting on the tapes. Unless you use the Emtech/BASF preformatted tapes, ADAT machines are notoriously bad for working well with tapes formatted in other machines.

Best practice is to use preformatted, or if you format your own, format the tape with the machine it's to be used with and don't swap the tapes around.

easier solution- buy mine! they are in the classified, low hours, BRC and they work perfect. I can sell you just two adats if you want...
