Well I had my first session last night with the HD24. First off, formatting a 40GB hard drive took about 10 seconds to do. Each song is loaded separately, so you don't have to worry about over writing part of another song (as could happen with the tape based ADAT). Starting a new song takes seconds to set up, and rewinding back to the beginning is as easy as a PC based system. The Alesis HD24 is the best of both worlds, the speed of the PC with the simplicity of the tape. I will hook it up to the PC this weekend and test the FTP connection. There are just not enough words to describe how awesome the HD24 is.

That's enough for me. I'll have one in a month. Hell, I'm happy with ADATs so I'm sure I'll be in love with this. I'll keep my ADATs for backwards compatability but this sounds too cool for school.
:D

I forgot to mention. The session went so well, we were able to track 23 songs in 3 hours. They did take a couple of breaks between a couple of the songs.

Wow!

I covet.......

I desire......

I lust.......

I need money.....

:( DOM:(

Yo fishmed, I'm really jealous of you!!!! I'm now $422.89 away
from purchasing one!

Question, can you perform pitch shifts on each track!!??
Can a XT be connected to the HD24 and used as a slave for additional tracks, and for that matter how manyother ADAT's be hooked up to it!!?? If so, how are they connected!!??

And last but not least can I borrow yours for say...3 years!!??;)

Yo, FISHMED!!! What is you studio setup---particularly, what mixer are you using? I have an 8-track ADAT and use a 16 track Mackie, splitting 8 in, 8 out. You use a 48 track mixer?

Also--do you mix in a computer/software situation? Have an RME card?

MISTERQCUE - The HD24 can be hooked up to ADATS. The HD24 hooks up just like an ADAT, but it has 24 tracks instead of 8. You can also use the BRC to control them all. I have paired up my two XT20's with the 12R mixers for remote recording. I should be able to track on location then bring the material back to the studio and dump it to the HD24.

Bodoc - I have an MCI JH416 (24 Chan.). I have hooked the HD24 to my MOTU 2408 so I can still mix old songs from my PC.

Fishmed, I couldnt find any specific info

Does the HD24 have video monitor hookup?

No, it does not have a video hookup, but you don't need one. The panel interface has everything you need that the unit provides. If you want to do any serious audio editing, you can use the 10 Base-T ehternet connection to FTP audio files to you PC (or Mac) to edit them and then FTP them back to the HD24.

I am telling y'all, this unit is so simple to use it is awsome.

Bonus day here at work2/22/02 !!

I'm also waiting for a FAT bonus, then it's time to order some shit from ze Germans.. HD24, Behringer patchbay and headphone-amp...

Good to see that there'll be ppl to share the goodies with :)

Have just done my first Live recording using a HD24.

It was fed from ADAT on my Behringer Digital desk that was also used for FOH duties and 8 tracks were sent off the direct feeds.

Back home I FTP,d the whole lot (19 tracks) into Vegas Audio and have just started the mixdowns but so far the results are gorgeous.

Anyone want to hear an MP3 ?

Mesh, down-load done deal!
wilkee, yes, post an MP.3.

1 more week to HDR824-D-Day!!!

Hd24

I just got this module the other day. The Alesis website and the guy I bought it from didn't mention about requiring a mixer for recording purposes - (the BOSS BR series have direct input) - but I've scoured the manual and it seems to suggest the need for a mixing console as an interface between the instrument and the HD24. Will I have to cough up more money for additional equipment? Mark

Wow, it is cool to see one of my old posts come back to life.

Mark,

Get the Fireport as soon as you can too. It is WELL worth the money, but a mixer is more important right now.

Mixer for HD24

Thanks for the reply. I'm a novice on the home-front. Tons of mixers out there. I saw the Masterlink ML-9600 the other day but I don't know if this is what I should be looking at. Basically, I have the HD24, a Roland HP-557R digital piano, a Godin Freeway Classic guitar and a Roland Fantom X7 synth. I also have a Dell 1600 laptop (minus firewire port but if needs be I'll use ethernet ftp transfer but I'd rather just record and mix from hardware direct. Would buying the Masterlink ML-9600 be a waste of money (duplicating functions already on the HD24) or what mixer should I be looking at. What interface should I use for hooking the instruments into to record into the HD24?
Mark
