I have an Adat , older Black face , And I am getting the dreded error 2. On all tapes

For the rookies out there , it is a loading problem.

It may take 15 to 20 attempts for it to finally take the tape.

Very embarrassing during a gig.....of course very seldom does it if I am by myself..

Does it with any tape...
Only has 400 hours on it.
Could it be:
A. a switch?
B. Something loose?
C. alighnment of carrage?

I want to pull it out of the rack and fix it, not going to send it off.
Anyone that has experienced this and knows "the" fix......I appreciate it.

Also I have a 3630......Due to the bad press, it has been in the unopened box for about 3 years now!!!!!!!!

PS....

It does not matter if it has been off for 2 weeks, or used for 10 hours....It will just BALK at loading the first few trys...

Is this a ghost town or what....any techs out there?????

I 'll be patient

Well, I have never had an error 2 message before, so I don't recall what the manual says about it. But, it could be just about any of the things that you listed.

It is not uncommon for certain ADAT's to have a few problems at low hours like yours. If you are so busy in your studio that it is affecting business, the logical thing to do is take the damn thing to a certified ADAT repair shop and have them take a look. From experience, you will not spend more than about $180 to fix most problems. If it is the head stacks (which seems very unlikely) you would probably not want to spend the money to replace them as they are quite expensive.

Ed (the ghost.... :))

Hey I am having the exact same problem!! I know this was a long time ago but I was just wandering if you solved the problem. Let me know!!! Thanks!

i just answered in nelsons thread... so for your edification as well... there are little fingers that pull the tape out of the shell... i suspect this is an alignment problem with them... it will need to see a doctor... nothing you can do yourself... and find a good tech... these things are NOT easy to work on despite the fact that they are essntially VHS transports...

geez louise... ya sucked me in this thread is from 2000...
