I currently use an ADAT LX20 for recording tracks, and take it to a friends to mix on his computer. I'm getting a new computer soon so I can do this at my place.

What should I be getting in the way of an interface and sound card to get my LX20 tracks onto the computer? I'll be running Windows XP, so I don't think I can use the ADAT/edit. I would also want to be able to record onto the computer while it is playing the other tracks......

very new at this stuff, and appreciate any advice/suggestions

thanks

RME Hammerfall 9632 - will give you the ability to do the digital I/O between the ADAT and the computer (with ADAT SYNC)....... you would need another card for analog I/O though........

Around $700 cdn.... (just for the 9632)... probably around $500 US....

I use a M-Audio Audiophile 2496 card for monitoring.... $250 cdn, maybe $150 US...

latency

i recently got a PC, and ADAT a frontier design DAKOTA soundcard, a 12 CH Mackie. I can record direct thru ADAT to COOL EDIT PRO w/ out even using ADAT tape! its nice! but when i play back my cool edit recording and record along w/ it i have problems w/ latency, by the end of the song when i listen to my overlay the timing drags because for playback while i record i have to use my cheap soundcard to monitor w/ phones because i do not have a second D/A converter. ( i think i need another ADAT or DAT or something expensive....) i think there is a way around it....one way is that i do not necessarily have to cut my overlaying trax in one shot for the whole song, ie, record one verse stop...then on another track record thechorus....etc etc
anyway, keep this in mind, wish i could tell ya the best sollution but i am looking for one myself, if anyone can help me overcome this w/ the equip i have now...please help! thanx, good luck!

MOTU

Get a MOTU 2408 MKII they have ADAT in and out (24 tracks worth) and they have analog in and out (8 tracks each way). They also have SPDIF, and TDIF(tascam) in and out, and they are only 100$ more than the card Blue Bear Recomended. I have one, and I love it.

Is the MOTU compatible with windows XP? I have seen someone use it with a Mac and Digital Performer and it works very well.

any other suggestions?

thanks
