Linux Man...
I have a motu 2408 MKII and I would like to convert the analog signal to an ADAT signal without a computer present. Is that possible?

Basically, 8 analog inputs, 8 lightpipe outs. I have played around with it a small bit and had no luck. I might not be able to do A/D. I think it can do D/A and D/D. The front panel is somewhat cryptic.

I just wanted use it on the road for A/D conversion if that is possible. I realize my adat isn't 24 bit, but the converters on the MOTU might sound a little better than the adats.

So apparently it can be done, and I am just not cool enough to figure out how to do it. Anybody have expereicne about this?

RTFM!!! ;)

It would appear that all you need to do is hook up whatever to the line level inputs, select the sample rate (might as well pick 48KHz since ADAT's like running there...) and hook up a lightpipe cable from the 2408's ADAT out to a Lightpipe In on the ADAT. Make sure the ADAT is in Digital mode so that it will look for signal at the digital inputs. That should about do it I suppose.

Coming from Unix land, RTFM is a valid choice. I have read it, and tried it and really come up with not much. I have everything set as you say I should, but no dice. I will try it again tonight for a while.

Got it

I took some more time to figure out and it worked. It was a clock issue on the ADAT that was stopping me. (I forgot to set it to digital in). Yeah, I feel a little stupid. I need to just get a Lucid clock and have everything use that all the time. Anyway, thanks for your help everyone. The improvements are barely noticable, but I feel better.

Are motu a/d converters better then rme multiface ?

thanks
