ACPI vs. Standard Computer

Alright...
Now 3 or so years ago when I first turned my computer into a "DAW" (if you could call it that back then, ha!), I remember specifically disabling ACPI and letting windows be a "standard computer" or whatever. What I can't remember, is WHY - and HOW? haha.

Is it still oh so important to do this? I just reformatted, and before I install my Q10 I want to decide if I need to take this off of ACPI and put it to Standard Computer.

All I remember is doing this because of PCI slot sharing, but I really remember NOTHING beyond that - and I think if I can get the Q10 alone, there would be no point yeah?

I have read where ACPI was never really the problem in the first place. I tried it both ways using a 5 year old mobo (bx440 chipset) and it didn't make any difference in performance.

Make sure your BIOS is the most updated available, and maybe consider using Windows 2000 or XP (with SP1...SP2 is appearently having some problems), and maybe sure all your drivers are the most current. You shouldn't have any problems with ACPI if you do the above.

Now, if you DO have some problems, post back with the specifics. Often, IQ sharing wasn't the problem, it was "PCI Timers" that was the problem. I have some suggestions to fix that IF you need it.
