I have a quick question. I'm looking to do a little bit of low budget treatment for my apartment. I wanted to build some panels using 703 fiberglass but I've had a tough time finding a dealer (most of the people I've talked to had no idea was I was talking about).
I finally found a place that can order in some but it could take weeks to get it in or longer. As I was in Home Depot looking for lumber I also saw an acoustic tile (generally for suspended ceilings) with an NRC of .7 made by Armstrong. They come in 2'x2' 3/4" panels. Are they a waste of money or do they actually work (just not as well)?
I'm not in a hurry and it doesn't have to be great treatment, it is just an apartment, but I would like to tame the room just a little bit.
Would it be worth it to order the fiberglass instead and just wait or could I get away with using the acoustic tiles?

The acoustic ceiling tile is next to useless. Forget Home Depot and Lowes. If they would order it they'll want a minimum order that's definitely not my definition of "minimum." Check with a local company that sells insulation to heating/cooling (HVAC) companies. Ask local heating/cooling contractors where they get their duct insulation. They should have a Knauf substitute for the OC 703 or 705. It's used to cover rectangular ductwork and is usually 2" thick with foil/paper on one side. Seems to go for about $6 per 2'x4' sheet. Cover with something like burlap. You don't want to brush up against that itchy stuff.
