Hi guys,

A couple questions...

I'm going to be purchasing some acoustical foam from Auralex. I'm going to be treating a small bedroom. I know you are to use some type of gel to hang the foam, but does it come off the wall okay? I'll be moving in about a year & will definitely want to take the foam with me. I didn't want the foam to be damaged. I'm sure I'll need to re-paint the walls before moving.

Also, I don't know that I will have enough to cover the ceiling... I know that's pretty important, but would it be safe to say that I should treat the area behind my monitors & also the opposite wall first? I also would opt to put some around the drum area 1st too? I'll buy more but can only afford so much at one time.

Any thoughts??

Thanks!!

If you're planning to remove it soon I wouldn't use adhesive sprays... Buy some velcro with an adhesive back and stick it to the auralex and the wall. I've found a couple of 1"x 4" sticks will hold a 2'X4' peice of 2 inch foam in place on a wall and 3 pieces will hold it to the ceiling. I might go for the 2" wide velcro if you can find it- for a little extra holding strength.

Depending on how your room sounds I would foam the front and back walls and then the first reflection points on the ceiling and side walls. To find the first reflection points, sit in the mixing position and then position a small mirror on the side wall until you can see the speaker face in it. This is the first reflection (and I assume the strongest ) of the sound source. Do the same for the ceiling as well..

Good luck

I Auralex'd my basement project studio this summer. I'm leasing a townhome and I hope to buy a house soon, so I didn't want anything permament. Auralex actually suggested using T-Pins (any Hobby Store, or even Target would have them). I put about 4-6 T-Pins in each 2'-4' piece of foam, and it's been holding the foam up to my drywall ever since (thought my thumbs were sore for about a month after I did this for 96 square feet!)
Regarding placement, they have a form you fax them, along with a blueprint of your space (with dimensions and where stuff is), and they recommend how much to buy and where to stick it. They were very helpful to me, and now my basement sounds 500% better!
Good luck!
