Acoustic Treatment (trials and tribulations)

In a perfect world, people would come to this thread and post their "trials and tribulations" with room treatment.

My specific interest in this, those who have built the Ethan membrane bass trap, as opposed to those who have just used rigid fiberglass or mineral wool covered in cloth, or have done both and how drastic of a difference there is between them/with/without, different placement, gobo's, and "portable" traps, and yes even auralex etc, etc, etc.

Weather and finances haven't permitted me to get my traps built yet, so in the meantime.............

I think you asked that question in a thread I started once. Here's what you asked and what Knightfly answered:

"The main advantage of membrane traps is lower frequency absorption in less space. They need to be placed flat against walls for best efficiency, where absorbent fiberglas traps are better diagonally across corners. Membrane traps absorb much less at higher frequencies, so help keep a room more "live" - so it helps to know the specific application before you can decide which will work better in what location... I started off with just the fiberglas panels. The stuff does wonders I can say that. I figured it was easier and I saved some money but the good thing is, I already have the fiberglas. Alot of it is already cut into 2' x 4' panels that I can turn into wood panel traps later.

I didn't mean to make it so "pointed" to my singular issue. It seems somewhere (in one of these many acoustic forums) I heard that for smaller rooms that the figerglass "only" panels are as effective, but perhaps it was only meant that they are economically and ergonomically efficient. I probably read my own meaning into it, as I am prone to do...

I had to splurge to buy new PA cabinets the other day, because the ones I was borrowing from a friend were repossessed. I had intended on buying lumber, so this has set me back considerably.

I actually found a good deal on some discontinued JBL's, but when you are 'po like me...
