I recently purchased some PL acousti-seal (LePage Bulldog Grip) and had a question, or two.
I am a newb to this type of sealant so bear with me.

The product states that the bead should not exceed 20 mm 1/4 or a 1/2" deep. I may have exceeded this, and at some points have a couple gobs which may even hit 3/4 ".

Question: I put some of this stuff up in the joists of my basement ceiling. Will the excess amount of acousti seal expand enough to damage the floor above?
The product is basically big, thick black caulk that never dries..

What a great article and those links are awesome. Thanks for the resource, I have read a lot over there

RE: Unhappy Mess. All I can say is that's what you get when you dont read instructions.

It states right on each tube in bold font.

This product should be used in concealed areas. Then it goes on the say that it does not dry (therefore must collect dust). With that being said, if you start caulking external ( 3 point !) surfaces with this stuff, you've got no one to blame but yourself :)

I have to say I am not experiencing any problems putting down a solid consistent bead in my ceiling. I beefed the bead to about 3/4 and as of this time looks awesome. At one point I was using a small putty knife to get into small crack and crevaces with ease, since this compound is very pallable. As far as it emitting a foul odour, it all depends on the ventalation of the room. I had a basement window open 1/2" and no one noticed any odor. My HVAC system functions well. I will be placing up Fire and Sound Insulation on top of this with a double vapor barrier. Then comes the resilliant channel and double wallbord \ acoustic tile. That should do the ceiling just fine.

FOr external caulk I have a box of :

It's all about using the right tools for the right job. At 4.97 for 95 ft... its well worth it.

Good to hear someone's not had problems with it; I've not used that particular brand and had a hunch someone forgot to "RTFM", but the guy was already in so much pain I didn't want to be responsible for him slitting his wrists with a putty knife... Steve

I am almost finished my entire area with this stuff. Its working out quite good, and so are my arms.. whoa.... I wish they made lighter caulk these xl tubes are not the best things to be manouvering above your head.. ehehe.

But with that being said I have nearly sealed every crack, seam and crevace in that ceiling and I am pretty proud of all the extra work I have done. Even with 1/3 of the celing insulated you can still notice a huge difference when your in that corner of the room already.

I would reccommend this stuff, for it's designed prupose it really works well.
