Taming the World--for now
Hey gang. I have this stupid three or four chord acoustic rocker rolling through my head. I laid these words down to fit the genre. Pick it apart and I will humbly review your suggestions as I rewrite. Thanks, Dave.

Ten Dollar Bill
c.2010 Dave Morehouse

Wind in my face not a care in the world
I look over at my special girl.
Through three lanes of traffic we slip, dip, and glide
And I let her drive
‘cause I enjoy the ride.

chs
We got the top flopped down and a ten dollar bill
Sittin’ in the gas tank with time to kill.
There’s no place else we’d ever rather be
Than sittin’ next to her sittin’ next to me.

Burgers and shakes and some shared French Fries
We pass an old Ford and the napkins fly
We laugh as the paper and the wind collide
And I let her drive
‘cause I enjoy the ride.

We got the top flopped down and a ten dollar bill
Sittin’ in the gas tank with time to kill.
There’s no place else we’d ever rather be
Than sittin’ next to her sittin’ next to me.

(Bridge)
Our life has had its tires go flat
and potholes in the road.
But when we’ve had our little spats
We drop the top and change Zip Codes.

We got the top flopped down and a ten dollar bill
Sittin’ in the gas tank with time to kill.
There’s no place else we’d ever rather be
Than sittin’ next to her sittin’ next to me.

Love the lyrics, Dave. Footloose and fancy free, great visuals!

Sounds like a song that can be a lot of fun!!! Would enjoy hearing this one.

I could suggest one change... the paper and wind collide; it sounds like a forced rhyme and repeats the image of flying napkins. Maybe something like "a roaming picnic nationwide..." or something along those lines. Something to better sum up the whole image of eating in the car with the top down. idk.... sounds like fun, though.

can't wait for summer again!!!

Like the song.

Having trouble with "Sitting in the gas tank". I understand it, but it still makes me go "What?"

Thanks M'
That's the kind of stuff I need to hear in the early stages. My process is about working the lyrics for a while and then writing several different melodies once the lyrics are set in stone. Then I keep the one I like best and move on to something else. Thanks again, Dave.

It's a top flight set of lyrics for a summer road song except for the bridge verse. It takes the story into back story which is down a gear rather than UP so if the musical bridge takes it up?higher?afster it'll be pulled back by the moral of the tale and, to be honest, the homilies are a little on the home spun line.
I think you could throw in something brighter, happier or actually darker - think chilli sauce on the apple pie!
I look forward to HEARING the song!
