I think this may prove that I need to acquire a good set of monitors. Thoughts?

I wouldn't think that at all, but I'm actually listening through headphones right now, and I'm assuming from your comment that you are too..? Or maybe just come really bad monitors. Either way, you seem to know your headphones/monitors well and you have created a good mix on them. This proves nothing to me.

Sounds fine to me. Good natural tone.

Edit: oh I see it's a headphones vs. monitors issue. This track wouldn't be a good test, because there isn't much bass content.

There is a bass guitar in there somewhere, but am having a hard time bringing it out. It either needs a different preamp, or my monitors are lying to me.

No it's there, I meant there is nothing like a kick. Plus the bass is back a bit, and hangs on one note for long periods of time.

You could add some 100Hz if you really wanted, but I think I might try compressing the bass first, if you wanted to add punch.

I sort of assumed you had the bass the way you wanted it, since it was an acoustic track

Edit: Nah I just listened again, I wouldn't add any bass at all. And I'm a bassist ;)

I don't have access to an acoustic bass, so I'm trying emulate it with an electric (this may be problem #1). When listening to an acoustic bass, you cannot really hear it, but you can feel it.

I think the overall level is where I want it, but when I try to add the lower frequencies (around 60-100 like you suggested) my sound starts to harmonically distort. But then I listen to that same mixdown in the headphones and other sources (car, home stereo), and the bass cannot be felt and no distortion exists.

So, I'm thinking that my monitors need to be my next upgrade. Maybe I'm asking a question that I kinda already know the answer. Some people say that I can be indecisive sometimes...but...I don't know. :D

Hi

I like the song a lot. It has nice tones and it's well balanced. You probably need a different song (with more bass content) to see the benefits of using monitors.

David, I think it sounds very good. Nice and clean. Everything seems to have plenty of space. Nice tune also. If your monitors are lying to ya...send them to me.... :D

Jack Real, Dogman,
Thanks for the listen and the feedback. I think my distorting culprit is actually in the guitar tracks that gets revealed by pushing the bass. When I pushed the low-freqs on the git tracks, it was noticable. So, maybe my monitors are ok for now.

Thanks to everyone again!
