hey guys,

So i had this idea the other night and recorded it real quick for a couple hours.... not a ton of editing done to it yet but its gettin there.

thought it would be fun, though its not finished and still in draft form, if you guys could give me your opinions so far.

much appreciated

nice....I liked the melody, guitar and vocal style

I dont like saying much on arrangements as I prolly dont listen to the same music or have the same view as you but I found the drums and bass a little predictable...like a rock guying writing something out of his comfort zone then going back in it

I think it has a really unusual element to it so some percussion would be better than straight drums, rolling timpani's...cymbal splashes...tablas.... maybe even a synth bass or a double bass..a cello... just something not so "straight"

theres a synth/mandolin part that comes in, no idea what it is, that really works...I can hear bells maybe panned hard coming in at bits

I just think its quirky enough not to play it straight if you know what I mean??

I need to lie down....

thanks KC,

The melody will make the rest of it more relevant and less predictable, and i am no rock guy... more of an ambient kind of guy :D lol

this was really written in a simplistic fashion to emphasize the vocals .

the synth/mandolin part is actually my acoustic guitar being speed picked with delay and reverb on it... 2 tracks of speed picking at different tones in different movements panned left and right.

ah clever then, it worked...I love experimentation

Ahh the speed picking with delay and reverb. Your stuff sounds just like a friend of mine!

This has a really cool sound. I like it. The vocal reverb could be a little darker, especially in the intro. The esses and tees are really bright in the reverb tail. Cut everything from around 5k up from the reverb feed and that would help (I think). There seems to be a drum timing issue in the drum fill at around 1:54. Not sure, but it sounds a little off. Again, though, I really like the overall sound.

crow your friend must be awesome if he sounds like me ;) hahaha jp. but who is this friend of yours?

Guitar zero - i'll look into that, it may be the eq on the actual vocal track but i hear what your saying.

cheers

He is in an ambient band called Raintree. I wish I could show you a link, but they don't have a site up or a Youtube video or anything :(

Just personally I did not care for the speed picking mandolin. Would prefer some more highs in the drums as they sound a little muffled... Great song in every other regard and I loved the reverb you have going - nice rich sound to the track. Instantly reminded me of something like Simon and Garfunkle type acoustic song.

Holy breath batman! Is that the hardest compression ever or is that big breath in the intro intentional? The drums don't work for this. They sound like they belong in an 80's hair-rock anthem. The fill at 2:25 is kind of a mess. I like the guitars. Bass is a little boomy, but not too bad. The vocals sound good but the reverb tail makes them seem too sibilant to me.

lol Neither... while i was gettin ready to do some vocals i had my mouth touching the mic when i realized i was about to start and then when i started singing i got off the mic haha. so poor mic technique is the excuse for that. (And my athsma was killin me that particular evening)

the vocals need to be redone as a whole cause the suckaroo.

i agree for the most part with the drums, i've been wanting something more innovative, but its a placeholder for now untill the rest of my band decides to help me out with this song because i definitely want their spin on it.

i envision a lot more tom work throughout the song but i figured i'd wait untill my drummer got a hold of it to get his feel, since i think this is now going to be a band project rather than my own doings.
