acoustic hum

I am experiencing a hum while recording acoustic guitar. I record with a MXL V67 thru a Midiman audiobuddy preamp to a Boss br-8. I use very little gain with the preamp. I noticed that the hum occurs when I play a single note. The hum is "behind" the note and immediately stops when I dampen the string. The sound deadening in my space can be improved. Any ideas?

Make sure you are not creating any loops while tracking, ie. hearing the recorded track and the track after tape at the same time. To check this see if the hum is on the recordings or only while tracking.

Otherwise it may be a bad combo of guitar, mic, room or something that is amplifying some unwanted resonance. I've noticed this with certain mics and placement.

Some guitars just suck and do not have a very even tone. Your best bet is to experiment with different environments and see if you can minimize it.

Check your cables......you can almost always find some unwanted noise in cheap cables. Try some monster cables, they are expensive but you get what you pay for.

HUM

could be that your amp. is close enough to the guitar that the magnetic field from the power xfmr. is causing a string on the guitar to continue to vibratr at 120Hz. Try moving amp further away. If it is a combo amp and spkr thie is a common problem.
