Im gonna try some of the suggestions for stereo micing my cheap-ass acoustic guitar. Im gonna try the 1 mic on the 12th fret and 1 over-the-shoulder configuration first.

Here is my small selection of mics. What 2 mics have you had luck with, (if any of these) to mic in this stereo configuration? The music is single string picked, smooth,....etc strings? using Phosphor lights or something.

57 x 2, 414TLII, 421, AT4050, D112, AKG1000 x 2, AKG3000B....and will be getting a KM184 in a week

Lose the guitar. Use a decent instrument. The source of sound is more important than the mics used. You have some good mics there. All they are going to do is pick up the crappy instrument.

Ive tried a Marshall MXLv67 out in front around the 12th fret and either a Behringer ECM8000 over the shoulder or a mxl603 when i can steal one........

of yours Id do the 4050 out front and the km184 over the shoulder........

like sdel eluded to, youll only get as good as the guitar sounds.......

try this link for hints......

Agreed.

One thing you can do when you are ready is to put some headphones on and audition each mic to see where it sounds best--neck or bout. I suspect the best combo will be the KM184 on the neck and the 4050 at the bridge or over the shoulder in omni. This is similar to what I have had success with using an MXL603s on the neck and a 797 tube mic in omni over the shoulder.

How do you like the 797? It's that one that kind of looks like AKG's C12 reissue, right?

Yeah, it's the C12 copy, very nice and smooth to my ears with lots of proximity effect in cardioid. It's the only LD I own, however, so I don't have much to compare it to except those I've heard in other studios. I believe RE has one as well.
