Im an ex-spurt
Hi guys,
I'm recording my 12 string and the mic choices I've got, so far, are a pair of the Shure KSM 109's, Cad E200, a 57, a Beta 52A and a Marshall V67G coming in the mail. The pre's I have are the onboard pre's in my Akai DPS 24 (which are pretty good), and a pair of M-Audio Tampa's. These may not be the best choices, but these are what I've got so far. I'm doing a quiet finger-picking and not getting such great sounds. The KSM's seem a bit boomy and my Cad sounds boxy. (sorry for the lame description) Any thoughts as to my best route? Words of advice from the gurus here?
Much appreciated. And thanks for your time.
Peace..............Kel

Experiment with your mic placement(s), a lot - hours and hours.

It's not the mics. It's the mic positioning and/or the room. You need to experiment with mic positioning, and keep the mics away from the sound hole. Try 109s xy 12" out from the neck joint, or try one on the 9th fret and the other aimed behind the bridge. Or back them up a little--if the room doesn't sound like crap, that is.

Cool...thanks. I've got a pretty decent sounding room, so I'll experiment around.
Again, thanks for the input.
Peace.................Kel
