Does anyone out there have any good compression settings for an acoustic guitar....I'm using AA 2.0.

Also....is it better to compress the guitar before sending to AA...i have a Behringer AutoCOM PRO that i have inserted into my Yamaha board,..then into the computer.

I've played around with some settings on the outboard compressor,...but want to campare it to a decent setting within AA 2.0. without the channel insert.

Thanks!

First, why are you compressing the guitar? Are you trying to get rid of the fret sounds from the fingers? Are you trying to get a more leveled volume on the track? What's your purpose for using compression in the first place?

Knowing that, will help us help you.

Compression

I'm compressing the tracks because I want the initial attack of the chord to be about the same volume as the sustained chord...to minimize the attack and reduce the initial peaks

Ok, that helps.

I don't recommend using presets in AA very often, but the Electric Guitar Gate compressor setting in AA (1.5, not sure if 2.0 has it) is actually a very good setting. I've used it on occasion on acoustic tracks, and it's worked very well.

I'd recommend trying that setting, and playing with the threshold, attack, and release until you're satisfied with the sound.

In case you don't have that preset to try, here are the settings for it.

cmp 5.5 : 1 above -24 dB
exp 1.6 : 1 below -24 dB
exp 14.7 : 1 below -45.7 dB
Compensation Gain = 12dB

Attack Time = 1ms
Release = 250ms

Start there, and play around until you're happy with it.
