Acoustic-Electric Bass

Any recommendations on a good sounding and playing acoustic-electric 4-string? Looking to spend less than $1000. I expect that most of the time I will be plugged in, either live or in the studio, but want it to yield a nice acoustic bass sound. (I have plenty of electric basses - looking for acoustic sound and feel.)

I assume you're after an acoustic bass that has built in pickup/s of some sort.
I have a semi acoustic bass (hollow body) that has a great OLD sound and an acoustic bass(no name) that has a piezo pickup that sounds so so electrically as the under bridge pickup isn't a great way to capture bass tone - its acoustic tone is OK though. I could invest in a soundhole pickup I suppose but can't be botehred as my semiacoustic & solid body basses cover enough range for me.

Thank you. You are correct in that I am looking for a stock acoustic-electric. Maybe a Breedlove or a Martin or a Carvin or, well, I don't really know. Looking for some input and advice.
