hey there, i have a problem with my recently acquired acid pro 4.0. before i start, im definitely not an expert at recording, so there is a good chance this problem will be something very simple. my problem is this: when i record, and play it back, i only get speaker response out of the left speaker. the same is true when i render it to a file and burn it to a cd. now, i know that most people will tell me that i just need to change the pan to the center, but every pan option is already set dead center. the way i am recording is from my guitar/mic to a behringer 4 track mixer, i run 2 quarter inch cables out from the L and R main outs to a Y adapter, then i run the Y adapter into a 1/4-1/8, then into the line in on my computer (yes, im looking into a better cable setup, one that doesnt require splitters). now, my question is, is this why my sound only comes out one of my speakers? and if i just ran out of one of the main outputs, would that fix things? any help is very much appriciated, you guys have been great about helping people who have no clue what we are doing. many many thanks!

Make sure the ring and tip of your 1/8in plug line up properly and are not reversed. The best thing to do is buy quality cables w/o adapters.

forgot to mention....you should also reverse you 1/4 cables just to make sure they both work; you should hear sound from the opposite speaker.

All those adaptors are converting your signal to mono somewhere (probably from the "y-adaptor" into the 1/4">1/8"), and the computer is only picking up one side of it.
(Unless you have a pan knob on the mixer set wrong).

You need to get a lead that goes straight from the 2 x 1/4" mixer outs to a single STEREO 1/8" mini plug into your soundcard.

How handy are you with a soldering iron? It's not that hard really ;)

yeah i had thought it would be the cables, but i wasnt sure. many thanks for the help. im actually ordering the cable from musiciansfriend, since radioshack sucks and doesnt even have the cable for sale online. oh well. thanks again.

probs with this prog

I can't get Acid to record audio...it comes up with an error message that my sound device is being used by another app...but I have tried switching everything possible and still get this.
Any ideas???

Peace

If you are using Windows 98 or 2000, and have another music program open, you will get this message, so you have to close down the other program. If you are a Windows XP user, you wouldn't and shouldn't get this message.

I agree with ProducerBigC.

Do you have another music program open simultaneously, Juliebomboolie?

I don't generally have both Acid and Sonar open at the same time.
All this is very confusing but will try again over the weekend and see if I can get the prog to behave.
Otherwise it is going straight to bed with no supper and a sound spanking..
OOOOPPPS...thats for my man not the prog

Peace

In the Explorer view, you should be able to click on an mp3 to preview it.
If you double click on one to add as a track, you need to paint it into the timeline.

Spend some time with the manual, it's an invaluable resource.
