Acceptable SPL for Kick Drums

I understand what SPL is but I can find no Specs on what is the minumum SPL level for a kick drum. I don't want to ruin a mic by placing it in a kick drum. Any info would be helpful.

130 db is probably the lowest rating i would expect for a kick mic.... something more like 140 db is safer.

I have used several mic rated at 125dB SPL with no problems on a kick drum. You have to consider too the placement of the mic too. The kick drum is actually louder as you back away from it because of the developement of the sound wave in the low frequencies.

Thanks. I have a V67 which is rated at 130db. I will probably work on getting a rental for the day just to be safe.

Any thoughts on using a V67? Anyone tried it?
