I just recorded using AC 97 chip on a motherboard.
Experienced no pops and crackles. Initially had
some skipping and stuttering but I fixed settings
on OS and Recording software. All seems fine.
I can't hear any loud hiss or noise. I don't have a CD-R
drive. The record levels were set right.

1.My question is, what will happen to the quality of the
recording when I burn the audio onto a CD. Will it
deteriorate or be more or less the same as I heared
on the PC speakers. The mix will most likely be
different but what about the quality. It seems o.k.
at the moment.

2. Is it true that the benefits of 24/96 recordings can be heared
on quiet parts of the recording, since the increase in
bits are more on the softer dynamics. I do mostly Rock and pop
demos, so will the 24/96 capabilty be critical?

1. Depends on what kind of processing you do. If you do nothing it should sound exactly like the original tracks.

2. Yes. Whether it makes a big difference on your music is up to you to find out. It will definately make a difference on any miced tracks but it's advantage on sampled stuff is a little less.

1: This will mostly depend on the speakers you are using now. If these are typical pc speakers you can have surprises, but these are not due to the cdr transfer, but to the speakers letting you not hear that what you need to hear. As far as cdr burning is concerned, it is just a transfert of digits and format.

2: Like tex said, it depends on the processing after recording. Even then, 24 bit will make more difference then 96kHz as you will always have to come back to 44.1kHz for cd.
