I have this thing that puzzles me when recording in cool edit...
Every song I ever recorded had just way too much echo on it, or too much chorus, or too much something. I know there's probabbly something wrong with my percepsion of how it should sound, but if you listen to professional recordings, they also have reverb or other such effects on them, and they don't sound like they're comming from a bucket or toilet, or whatever...
Any tips? And, oh, yeah. The vocal part gives me the most trouble... is there something I should do with the EQ to make it stand out without making it 'stick' out?
Any feedback is more than wellcomed...

Of course this is just my first reaction and it may not be true for you but..

Sounds like your having some of the same trouble that I am. For me it is positively the room. Everything that I record through the mic, ESPECIALLY vocals sounds like mud. I am in a 12x12 room that is completely square and the sound reflections are ruining the sound. I am in the process of building some gobo's to deal with the sound. When my new home gets finished with construction though, the first thing I'm going to do <after I move in> is build a studio with the proper wall angles and treatments.

The biggest thing I have learned about efx is not to settle for the presets.Get into the programs and tweak away and learn as much as you can about how changing the settings effects the sound.Setup reverbs to sound like realistic rooms and apply sparringly. It is best if you can record dry then try differant efx after. It allows you to play around with out ruining a track.
