You're basically asking a question that's very much up for opinion. Are PC's good? Not if you're a Mac person. And are Fords good -- depends on the model, the year, etc. etc.
Generally speaking, though, I think they all sound like crap, with the notable exception of one mxl 603 small diaphragm condenser.
Lots of guys here will very likely disagree with me, though. Maybe they like the kind of overly shiny, bright highs they get from their mxl 2003s . . . or the Rub-a-dub, tubby-tub low mids of the mxl v67.
These are guys who -- if they made it a point to spend one extra weekend at home instead of going out and partying with the fellas -- would have the extra $100 they'd need to get a real mic like a Rode NT1000 or an AT 4040.
I can't stand 'em (Marshalls). My mileage varied on that. But I'm just some asshole with an opinion. Your call is what's important.
these budget mics design their products with hyped up high end. it gives the illusion of an upper sheen that you believe sounds pleasing until you start layering tracks...
if you really listen to something like a TLM 103, though a bit one dimentional and budget as far as Nueman says, its upper end is sheen but very "smooth" the key element missing in the MXL's
the 603 is probably MXL's best mic (as each budget company does strike gold once in a while) like the $75.00 Studio Projects B-1 (which IMO sounds better than there C-1 due to the B-1's attempt at taming those hyped up highs not a bad all around mic if you can only afford $75)...
the 603 due to its small condensor design makes it ideal for hi hats, overheads, and accoustic ins. (again high frequency inst.). yes its highs are purposely hyped, but due to its small size, it makes a nice small condenser and the price is equal.
