Hey guys, sorry if this is a stupid question, but I was just wondering why Ableton is sooooo much cheaper on 3rd party sites like Amazon and Sweetwater as opposed to their own website. I mean, I'm talking 60% off. ($449 on Sweetwater vs $1,148 on Ableton's site for the Standard Edition of Ableton 9).

Ableton Live 9 Standard (download) | Sweetwater.com

https://www.ableton.com/en/shop/

Its SUCH a huge difference in price, I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything and this comes with everything it would come with if I were to buy it on Ableton's website.

Thanks!!

On the ableton page you linked to that is a hardware/software combo package, it includes the software and a hardware controller called "push".

If you scroll down a little bit more you'll see the prices for just the software packages, the standard edition is the same price as sweetwater.

Oooooh, wow ok. I guess it was a stupid question . Sorry. Thank you!!

Not too stupid of a question though. Toontrack does this same thing. Their software is substantially more expensive on their own website than it is anywhere else. That's always puzzled me...

FYI, I had an email from Ableton saying that they will have an updated version coming out soon. I'm afraid I deleted it so can't give the details but it might be worth checking before you spend your cash--either you might get a discount on the existing one or it might be worth waiting for the new.

The updated version will be Live 9.7, which will be a free update for everyone with Live 9. :)

Ah, great! I wasn't sure so thought I should mention it just in case.

It's never a bad idea to mention when an update is impending, and 9.7 is not so far from 10. Besides, there's no telling whether Live will have a version 9.8 and 9.9 before jumping to 10. For instance, the last update of Live 8 before they jumped to Live 9 was 8.4.2.

A lot of companies do have grace periods for getting a free update to the next version if you bought the then-current version just before the next one was released, but offhand I don't know what Ableton's policy is.

Anyway, when you buy Live, the download is always for the latest update of whichever version you got a license for, so if you buy Live 9 now you'll automatically get 9.6 (or 9.7, if it's out by then) when you download it-- assuming you didn't buy 9.0 on a CD, in which case you'll want to download the newest release after you've installed Live from the CD.

And if you just can't wait for the newest version to be officially released, you can even sign up to be a beta tester! :)
