I have a system 8.............I have not used it in years and was thinking of setting it up again. It was used -w- a tascam Ms-16. Now it will be used -w Da-38's. Any comments on this unit. Are the pre's good. I am currently using an Alesis in line 16 board and outboard pre's. I have had good results mixing with the alesis and the monitoring section is very user friendly. Is it worth setting up the ABH sytem 8? It would be used for mixing as I will continue to use the outboard stuff. The MS-16 ran at 30 ips -w- no DBX. I always thought it lacked bass response.........and somehow attributed that to the system 8.............but was not sure... so when I got the DA-38's the Sytem 8 wound up in the closet. I never tried the system 8 -w- the Da-38's

My best suggestion would be to set it up and give it some signal. Let your ears decide whether or not you prefer it. Most likely it will be a little noisier than the Al;esis mixer (its MUCH older), but the preamps and EQ's will be a lot nicer (at least in my opinion). The system 8 should not exude a "lack of warmth". If anything, it would suffer from a lack of high frequency extension that is so common in todays mics especially, but also to some extent in the preamps as well. Personally, the system 8 may be a pretty nice match for an old converter such as the ones found in the DA38's.
