I am looking at getting an Aardvark LX6 and selling my 1010. Financially it is a better decision for me and it will also take up less space. I am worried however that the audio quality will not be up to par with my 1010. Please let me know what the difference would be and if I should be worried. I am pretty sure that all the direct pro line have the same converters (24/96, Q10 etc.) but I also not sure. I appreciate your help in advance.

Not having either, take what I say with an entire box of salt, but FWIW, I'm considering getting an Aardvark just because it seems like the things that I've heard that have impressed me sonically have more often than not been done with Aardvarks. I think it's the mic pre's that I like, but I couldn't say for sure that that's it. Could be the converters, but I'm betting it's the mic pre's. Hopefully someone with experience with both will answer you, and I'll get my answer too.

Good luck.

so is that 1010 a LT model or a regular 1010. how much do you want for it?

I've had the direct pro for 2 1/2 years and think it's great. I have not been able to personally A/B the Ark Pre's to Higher end Pre's but have against entry level mixers (Mackie, Alesis). I like the Aarks better. Seem a little thicker, (clearer, warmer).

I've tried for a long time to find people rating or A/B the Aark and other Pre's and can't find much info. I'm pretty good at tracking down info & it's hard to believe that there is non to be found.

I too want to know where the Aardvark sits in the food chain of Pre's. I wouldn't worrie about the Aark not sounding as good as your 1010.

Good Luck,
B.

I don't think you'll be disappointed with the LX6, base on my experience with it. Remember, you need external preamps or a mixer with preamp sends, since the LX6 has no built-in preamps.

Yup I got that covered. I have been testing out my new VTB-1 today, and I will tell ya my Soundtracs mixer is still sounding better to me. I didn't realize how nice these pre's were. I was going to sell it, but I may not now. I am going to try out a Joe Meek and an ART and then decide.
