Hi guys,
I'm looking into recording a full band simultaneously (and on seperate tracks). The Ardvark Q10 looks awesome, but probably is a little out of my price range as of now. Basically, I want to record the most number of tracks simultaneously (16 would be ideal, but 8-10 would probably suffice), with the highest sound quality possible (given consideration to price) for the least amount of cash possible. I don't really have a specific price range, but the Q10 is about $800, so please suggest some cheaper alternatives.
Also, does a piece of equipment like the Q10 or others negate the need for a mixing board? It looks like you set EQ/level through the provided software. Currently, we mic every piece of equipment in the band and run that into a 16 channel Carvin board and run that into a Laptop equipped with Sonar 2.0. The soundcard is only one channel, so everything records onto one track - not a bad overall mix, but obviously not much can be done to mix/master something like that.
Also, the Q10 has a seperate preamp for every channel, so no worries there. But would we still need to buy a seperate sound card, or at least a soundcard better than the stock sound card? Does the Q10 or other units like it have a multi-channel soundcard built-in (forgive the newbie questions)?
Thanks guys!
