Hi guys,

I'm looking into recording a full band simultaneously (and on seperate tracks). The Ardvark Q10 looks awesome, but probably is a little out of my price range as of now. Basically, I want to record the most number of tracks simultaneously (16 would be ideal, but 8-10 would probably suffice), with the highest sound quality possible (given consideration to price) for the least amount of cash possible. I don't really have a specific price range, but the Q10 is about $800, so please suggest some cheaper alternatives.

Also, does a piece of equipment like the Q10 or others negate the need for a mixing board? It looks like you set EQ/level through the provided software. Currently, we mic every piece of equipment in the band and run that into a 16 channel Carvin board and run that into a Laptop equipped with Sonar 2.0. The soundcard is only one channel, so everything records onto one track - not a bad overall mix, but obviously not much can be done to mix/master something like that.

Also, the Q10 has a seperate preamp for every channel, so no worries there. But would we still need to buy a seperate sound card, or at least a soundcard better than the stock sound card? Does the Q10 or other units like it have a multi-channel soundcard built-in (forgive the newbie questions)?

Thanks guys!

the q10 would give you 8 channels of simultaneous recording.....all 8 channels have preamps, though i think only 4 have phantom power for condensors, but that probably wont be a problem.....

the q10 will act as your soundcard, actually an audio interface......it is all you need.....

cheaper would a Delta 1010 lt.....its an 8 channel card for $250 but only 2 channels have phantom power......you can either buy a few inexpensive external preamps (the Audio Buddy is 2 channels for $75) or use your Carvin board for the preamps.......

Thanks guys!

How does the Delta 1010 work? I'm a total newbie, so you have to forgive me :) Does it replace the soundcard you currently have or does it plug in through your USB port? Does it have preamps like the Aardvark, or would I need to use a sound board?
