wow. i really want this piece of hardware.

thing is; it probably won't even go along with my laptop, right?
there's no PCI on laptops is there?

what else like this is there?
the Presonus Firepod seems cool. but after thinking a LOT about it, i'd prefer the Aarvark Q10.
hmm.. what's a boy to do?

can you somehow "fix" your laptop to be used with/and install the Q10's PCI soundcard?

No... sorry its not possible. The Q10 won't even work with laptop docking stations.

I would look at the Presonus firepod (granted its hard to say where it sits in comparison to the Q10 since its so new) as well as some of the MOTU firewire stuff (going to be more expensive, but great quality).

thanks. i've just heard so many bad things about the MOTU stuff.
i'm gonna stay away from that.

but damn... the Q10 ONLY attaches to an PCI. darnit!
and i guess you can't find an USB to PCI converter?
(or even use the "PCMCIA Type II" type slot i have on my laptop for it?)?

this blows.

the firepod is essentially the same.
but i really loved the way the Q10 only had digital mixing and preamp'ing etc..
bussing too.

how's the Firepod's mixing software (not Cubase) ?

Yeah, it kind of sucks... even though I have an SFF pc that holds 1 PCI slot I wish the Aardvark was firewire so I would have a free PCI slot for other things or be able to expand to more than one Aardvark unit.

I have not heard anything about the Presonus's mixer software... I was looking for reviews and information on it awhile back when I was looking for more inputs (before I decided no the Q10) but information and feedback was scarce since its relatively new. Do a search here... if I remember right there were a couple of posts on the Firepod.

Hope this helps.

yikes.
that's a lot for the purpose huh?
might as well buy a new laptop then.

think i'm actually going with MOTU 896 (not HD). eventhough i've heard bad things. i'd like to try it.

yup.. think i'll do that.

I use an 828mkII on my laptop and my main DAW. Both are Windows machines.
I only have good things to say about it. Great piece of equipment IMHO.
However there are other options for laptops other than USB, FireWire or Magma expansion boxes.
PCMCIA ..... Echo Layla Laptop or even a RME Digiface and Cardbus along with whatever digital multi-channel preamps you want to use.
Granted, the RME solution would be a more expensive option.

If possible, I'd wait until winter NAMM to see how Echo's new FW stuff is. If their other stuff is any indication, it will be awesome.
