Are the pre amps on this good? Out of all the soundcards, which pre amp is best?

So the preamps are good.

But Gidge, I'll let you bail him out if the drivers don't work..... Took me almost a year to get my lx6 functioning properly. It works like a charm now.... But buyer beware.

my dp 24/96 works fine...the only problem is that my onboard effects don't work most of the time. I think it's a driver problem. Recording with a dry signal works great, and I can add effect druing mixdown via Sonar.

Anyone else have this problem? Anyone have one that runs perfect on XP?

Do a search.

You'll find plenty of problems. The latest batch of drivers seem to work pretty good. The Aardvark guys are decent, but they're bad at delivering on their promises.

I don't use the most-most recent drivers, as they fucked up my computer, but the ones before that worked good (for me).

Good thing I kept the older ones, cuz at least at the time they don't have different driver versions on their sight.

Now my card works great. I can get about 10 milliseconds latency with a ton of tracks and plugins, and still play a softsynth. If I hadn't had my backlogue of personal experiences with them, I would heartily recommend the card.

It's kind of like Motu, very hit and miss. Except for the most part the Aardvark guys seem very decent. (Though they were surly when I asked for a legacy driver). I've heard poisonous stories about motu support

You probably will have no trouble. But if you do have trouble I haven't found Aardvark particularily able and in some cases willing to come through.

I have the Q10 and it runs perfectly with XP. I got it just about the time Aardvark was posting the new drivers for XP.

Aardvark has a portion of their website devoted to tutorials on downloading and installing new drivers as well as how optimze the performance of their equipment with different tracking programs (I use SONAR).

I had some problems with my system early on but these were resolved once I removed my creative live sound card; for some reason it got into a pissing contest with my Q10 PCI card.

Getting it to play with other cards is tough.

I'd like to get an additional midi interface, but because of Ardvaarks proprietary driver scheme, I somehow doubt I'd be able to use two cards at once which is a bummer.

I use a Q-10 in XP and it also runs perfectly w/ 2 to 4 ms of latency. My cousin uses two 24/96's piggybacked and his setup runs fine. Pre-amps are very nice.

Word to the wise: Contrary to what they state in the manual, the Aardvark cards do NOT work well with SB cards. I don't know about other consumer grade cards, but both my cousin and I had to disable our SB's to get everything running smooth.

Regarding Aardvarks Customer Support: The one time I finally broke down and e-mailed Aardvark with my problem I had a return e-mail with the proper action to take within one hour. It solved my problem immediately, so I have nothing but good stuff to say about their CS. However, rumor is if your waiting for a new driver to come out (ala XP) you can wait a while.

Anyhow, I am completely satisfied with my purchase. As an all-in-one unit it is fantastic.
