Aardvark Pre's... Where does it get better?

I know the Aardvark (Q10 & DP 24/96) Pre Amps are pretty decent. I haven't compared the Specs but better than say Mackie or the equivelant.

I've been thinking of getting a Stereo Tube PreAmp to run my Overheads (Oktava 012) through, but Where is the price break for a substantially better (more alive and warmer) sound than the Aarks?

A engineer friend told me to check out the ART TPS http://www.riksmusic.com/art/tps.htm I don't think you have to spend rediculous amounts to get good sounds But it's hard for me to believe that a $180 Stereo Pre is going to be that great.

So I've been researching Pre's & I'll probably post something in the Rack section... But does anyone know by experience where the Aardvark Pre's will get past up in performance to make it worth spending the $$$.

Thanks,
B.

I'd look into the RNP. It will definately give you a different sound. I don't if it all clear and uncolered though. It will be nice for the money though I am sure.

Other than that there is Grace Designs, Davisound (which I really want) and Great River. All up around 1k for 1, 2, or 4 channels.
