I've been doing some new research on cards, and was wondering what people thought of the Aardvark Direct Pro LX6 PA. I'm still in the market for a better soundcard and setup (currently running M-Audio Audiophile), and I've mostly been thinking of taking a step up to the M-Audio Omni Studio Package. The main difference I've heard of between the two is that the Aardvark doesn't have any built-in preamps. But I've heard from a lot of people that the Aaardvark is just a better-sounding card. Is that true? And if it is true, would it not still be worth it to just pay $50 extra for the Omni Studio just for the preamps? I mean, the difference in sound can't be that much, considering they're both less-than-professional, under-$400 cards. What do you guys think of the differences between the 2 setups?

I've got an Omni Studio, but I can't really compare it to anything else - not having owned another "prosumer" level card. I do like the Omni though. For me, the I/O options it offers are exactly what I need for my beginning efforts.

mixer preamp!

isnt the m-audio omni studio a USB? i fear using that and I've been thinking about the aardvark lx6 too and thats a pci so i would trust it more. also people would say it depends on your usage....if you plan on recording a bunch of tracks at once then i would go with the aardvark...plus i would run it through a mixer to the soundcard anyway and that would help if you used either one so look into a small mixer preamp i have a behringer ub802 and that costs about 40-50 bucks or something. no frills and i can use it for a live show too. just a thought.

Get the Aardvark Direct Pro 24/96. It has built in pre-amps (good quality) w/ balanced XLR/.25" inputs etc. I got mine used on Ebay for $250 (granted i got a steal).

It comes in a USB version and a PCI version that can work as a front end to a delta 44 or 66 (I've got a 66).
