Force of Naked
I have searched and searched the posts on the forums here regarding the Athlon64, and I am very tempted to make a purchase in the near future. My only concern is that I contacted Aardvark tech support to get a recommendation for an Athlon64 chipset and/or motherboard setup that will be compatible with the Aardvark Direct Pro 2496 that I have, and they said that at this time they cannot recommend any of the chipsets and/or motherboards, for a variety of reasons. Bummer! ...especially since I have read posts from users that suggest that there is quite a bit of performance to be gained by running the new 64-bit processors.

I would appreciate hearing from any of you out there who are running the Athlon64 & Aardvark soundcards (any variety), to get some idea if it is worth jumping in now, or waiting. I currently have an ASUS A7N8X, AthlonXP 3000+, 1 GB memory, etc., and want to get a feel for what experiences other Aardvark owners are having with the new Athlon64 rigs, and what kind of performance increases/decreases there are in Sonar 3.1.1.

Thanks!

Your current system's not fast enough? I think you're more than fine with what you already have.

There's *no* such thing as "fast enough" in my book!! :D

Actually, I have a chance to make a "sideways" upgrade, as a friend of mine wants to buy the same MB and processor that I have for his own system. He is willing to buy my "old" components for a good price, and I would take that money to make the upgrade to the Athlon64. If this upgrade plan were not in the works, I would not be looking to upgrade my system at this time...

More info!

Here's more info regarding what Aardvark's concerns were, in case you're interested...

Most of their concerns centered around the "unproven" and "immature" Athlon64 chipsets and the past history of the VIA chipsets with their products. The tech stated that they (Aardvark) have not rigorously tested their products with the new Athlon64 chipsets and/or motherboards, and that in the past there has been great excitement and expectations placed on certain AMD chipsets that end up not living up to all the initial hype. When I asked if there was a particular Athlon64 chipset, or chipsets, that I should *avoid*, he stated that he had no information about that, for the same "no tests run yet" reason.

Kinda a bummer... Maybe I'll wait for SATA-2 and some of the bugs to be worked out before I go ahead. Doesn't seem like too many people around here are running the Athlon64's and Aardvarks, at least by the response I've received so far to my post.
