Anyone familiar with Aardvark 24/96? I'm researching for home recording (acoustic instruments/vocals--folkie type stuff--6/12 string guitars, banjo, dulcimer, autoharp--some with pickups. SM58 and an Audiotechnica mikes.) I've got a Gateway PIII (integrated soundcard, I think, no input jacks that I can find) so a soundcard/mixer combination seems the best way to go. I've looked at Delta 66 and 1010, the Boss BR1180, Zoom 1044 and other stuff. Recently ran across the Aardvark 2496 and Q10, but have only found one review on the q10 and none on the 24/96.
All the info I can find is ads from aardvark and music stores, which is like asking the barber if you need a haircut.
Anybody out there ever actually used them? And what do you think about them? (I'll even listen to rumors....)

Chris

Very much as I said in the original post--primarily I'm a singer/songwriter and I'd like to record a few of my songs. It would be partly for demo's and partly for posterirty.
However, I'd also like to play with a few sounds on the recordings, add some drum and bohdran parts, make a dulcimer sound like bagpipes, add some harmony vocals--generally have some fun. Primarily I'll be using no more than 3 or 4 inputs (a mike or 2, an electric pickup) and doing any modifying with virtual tracks in the software.
If they come out any good, maybe I'll sell a few at gigs (that, of course will be determined by how good the audience thinks they are...)
Anyway, thanks for the response. If anyone else has used the Aardvark units, let me know, please.

I have one,

It's a nice little units, they do all that it's supposed to do. Good sound quality, easy to understand user interface, no latency monitoring, pretty good pre's for the price, I have no complaints, I don't use it that much anymore but it served me well to get into the computer based recording world.

All in all it's a sound unit, well worth the price. Have fun.

Thanks! Still looking into it, but this is sounding better and better.

Aardvarks are great units. If you need pre's then look into the Q-10, if you don't the 24/96's are great. My cousin has two of them. All quality sound, great latency, awesome customer service.

One of the things I like about them is you can piggy back up to 4 aardvark units of ANY type together. This gives you great flexability and expandability.

Search for reviews on them...you'll find they consistantly get great reviews.

Thanks for the info--I have seen reviews, all great, but mostly from music stores trying to sell them. The ones I've gotten from this group seem more trustworthy. I am surprised, considering how good the reviews all seem to be, that there aren't more people in these various forums singing their praises. A well-kept secret, perhaps?
This is the first I've heard that the 24/96 doesn't have pre's. THAT makes a difference....

Later!

Chris

I checked that, and you're absolutely correct. Both have pre's. Are the ones in the 10 better?

Still lookin'......

Chris

I'm pretty sure they are the same, the guys at Aardvark could tell you for sure. BTW, I called and emailed them several times before I decided on the Q10 and they were great to talk to, very prompt in answering my questions.
