Hope someone can help! Probably my fault for buying equipment without knowing the first thing about home recording - but here goes!

I've bought an Aardvark Direct Pro 24/96 and have been slowly getting used to it by using an inexpensive Sennheiser microphone to test it out... Now I've started to feel confident enough to use my new Rode NT2, so plugged that into Mic/Line input on the Aardvark - and can't seem to record anything, although the Cakewalk software that I use with the Aardvark seems to register that something's happening... I mean, it could mean the obvious that the Rode just doesn't work, but am I missing something here???

Anyone familiar with either Rode NT2, Aardvark Direct Pro 24/96 or both, and have a bit of spare time to reply - please help....!

not sure about Aardvard 2496, but I guess it does not hv phantom power.

Rode NT2 is a condensor mic that needs to be fed phantom power.

You need a preamp. :)

The 2496 has phantom power - so you don't need a preamp - but I'm not sure if it has it on all four mic inputs. I own the Aardvark Q10 and it only has phantom power on the first four mic inputs. Read your owners manual, it might be as simple as using a different mic/line input.

I suspect the real problem is how your recording software is set up. You say you see activity in Cakewalk , that tells me the signal is getting into the computer.

Check the obvious things -

1) make sure you've highlighted the recording button for the track you're recording to.

2) make sure the track you're recording to has the right 2496 input selected.

3) make sure you've selected "sound on sound" and not "punch" recording.

4) make sure you hit the "record" control and not the "play" control when you're ready to record.

These are the mistakes I make most often.

Read through your Sonar and Aardvark manuals, both have tutorials for common tasks like recording, playback, etc.

Good luck.

I am a happy owner of an Aardvark DP 2496;

1. Yes ...it does have phantom power on all 4 inputs,

2. Yes ...be sure to read through the manuals, *especially* the Aardvark manual, as it goes into great detail on how to monitor your signal and on how to use the Aardvark manager and the built-in preamps.

3. Dig around the Aardvark web site, especially in the support areas, as there's tons of info to help you.

Hope this helps.

To Leeking, Phyl & Mr Moon

Thank you all for attempting to resolve my problem so quickly.
I'm ashamed to say that I now realise that I was using the wrong lead to connect the Rode mic to the Aardvark and that's why it wouldn't work - as simple as that!

But I'm so grateful for the reples - hopefully as I get more experienced with the equipment I'll be able to ask a more intelligent question next time!!!
