I've been using a E-MU 0404. No issues, it works fine, but with the 'standard' patchmix settings, the best I could achieve while setting levels was something like -20dB, I'd need to really shout into the mic or set the preamp (ART Tube MP) at ridiculously high settings to get near -10dB ...
This is where I 'stumbled' across something real cool: the Patchmix FX
I knew they were there, but never really bothered to learn how to use them until last night.
I began fussing around with the various vocal presets, found some EQ settings more useful that others ('add Air' and 'presence' sounded better to me than 'Vocal enhance I & II' ) some compressor settings to work better than my Composer Pro (then again The Composer works fine) - I did find most delay settings to be much too distracting, and 'Nice Room' sounded best for Reverb ...
Again, to my ears, at the tardy hour of 2:30am, so anything to liven up the vocal mic and improve sound levels sounded good to me!
