Forgive me if this topic has come up b4, but I haven't found anything to match my exact setup. I posted a similar question before, which got me started on the right track, but now I've hit a brick wall. I have:

M-Audio Delta 1010 sound card

Yamaha O2r Mixing board

Cubase VST

Windows XP

I had asked the best way to wire the thing. The way I arrived at so far, (and I'll just use one instrument as my example): Drum machine goes into track one and two of the mixing board. I have it routed to auxiliary outs 1 and 2 into inputs 1 and 2 of the soundcard. Cubase gets a signal, it shows sound has been recorded, everything so far is lovely. The problem is in the playback, or adding other tracks. I've tried using output 1 and 2 from the soundcard going into several different inputs of the mixing board, which then I route directly to the stereo outs (which then go directly to the power amps and speakers). What I get is a little of the playback sound, but a lot of just bad buzzing noise (and yes, I did mute the original inputs from the original drum machine during playback). I also tried using the spdif out of the soundcard and into the tape in/inputs on the mixing board, which I have some success with as far as playback, but still a little noise and I have to change the mixing board's settings to hear it, so that now I can only hear playback and can't hear the input of new instruments I'm trying to dub.

I've made numerous attempts as far as re-routing signals on both the soundcard and the mixing board, and now have pulled out what little hair I have left. Let me know someone what I'm missing in the puzzle and what else I may need to add to my description to make my problem more clear if necessary.

You should just be able to go from the 1010 outputs directly to the tape inputs (or the equivalent.) If that doesn't work, maybe you have a problem with cables or something else.

I used a 1010 (2 to be exact) for years with a mixing board providing the preamps. The way I had the best results is Mic > XLR input on each channel, 1/4" snake from the send/recieve from each channel strip to each input on the 1010. All you need to do is set the trim for each channel, watching the input levels in cubase, and record away. You do your mixing in cubase, and with a $39 MON800 from behringer, you can hook up your monitors to your outputs and have talkback to the monitors and the headhphone mix. Easy as pie and gives great results....
