I'm putting the finishing touches on a new release and these are the final two under consideration for the CD. I'll probably do both, but I'm in the process of "living" with these mixes a bit before making that decision. I'm still polishing the rough edges on them...and the longer I live with them, the more blemishes I seem to see.

If folks could make any comments about either of the two, on any aspect of the works, I'd appreciate it. If you've visited the RP bbs, they're also posted over there. Thanks in advance to all who take the time to critique.

This is a ballad revolving around a marriage proposal:

If You Please

This is a simple acoustic guitar driven, Beatle-esque love song intended to sound like it was written in the early 60s:

Lady I Idolize

Very good. You have some talent. Reminds me of Van Morrison/Bowie on lead vox.
Great stuff

If You Please... very nice sounds. Good tones, and harmonies on the vocals, and I liked the guitar. Sounds well mixed, and nothing bad stood out to me.

Lady I Idolize...nice harmonizing. Vocals are well done. Mixed very well. I could envision this as a late 60's song. Very good.

If You Please - Listened four times to find something I could complain about. Great harmony, great playing, great everything. I hate you. ;)

Lady I Idolize - Nice. Real nice. Great everything again. Didn't quite get the Beatles thing but it doesn't NEED to. Although the Beatles were before my time (AHEM!) there will always be only ONE Beatles. But great stuff. Loads of talent in my book, which is VERY thin right now.

Hey all!

Thanks for your comments. I wondered if w/ "If you please" ... whether I was in the right neighborhood or not. It was (believe it or not) a tough mix to do w/ a lot going on fighting for attention. If you haven't loaded up the latest version (about 1pm 3/25), I think I've got it about as far as I can take it. It becomes a matter of artistic choices from here (lead tone/arrangement etc...), but I think (at least) I've got the mix about where I want it. It always amazes me...I'd THOUGHT I had it right about a week ago, then I solicited comments from around the web. Turns out, I didn't. The latest is a much better presentation.

I'm currently diving back in to "Lady I Idolize" too. The harmonies are too competitive and a person recently pointed out to me that there should be a "main" person singing to someone else in this tune. So I've rolled up the sleeves and rearranged the presentation. I'll post up when I've completed the changes. (To 7string: By "Beatle-esque", I mean a very 60s style...aaalllthough...the chord changes in this tune are extremely reminiscent of the Beatles "If I fell" -- very much along the same pattern...just done "differently").

Thank you very, very much for your comments. It helps even if you say, "I think things are fine." The perspective is valued.

Best-
