King of Bling
Brick by brick by brick, a song is being built. Okay, lol...it's still me singing, but yet, it's somehow better.

(mix advice always appreciated...

but Dave told me to bury the fiddle in the background

..and have you noticed that I'm not posting so many songs anymore? I'm just reposting the same one instead. This way is soooo much easier.)

:D

the fiddle is excellent.......the playing, the mixing, the arrangement..........it sounds great

You are correct, sir!! FUCK YOU AND YOUR HUMBLE ASS!!

nothing but improvement!!!!!!!! love the fiddle!

And please quit posting new versions of this song. The improvement of each mix, is really bad for my EGO. Anyone got a match???? Do microphone's burn??

Yeah, I know...I don't usually feel real comfortable about doing this, but in truth, DavidK is sort of responsible for ALL the strings on this, (he wrote the cello part for another song that I spliced up and used on here), and he sent me a violin track out of the blue yesterday...very very cool of him.

So I post...LOL. Flame me...please, I could use it.

Thanks rick and powderfinger.

Chris & Dave,

I allways give top billing to the one who wrote the song, sound fair?

You cyber dogs you!!

Man, what a blend acoustic and violin. ME LIKEY.

Give us a step by step on the process of this colab. Who did what?

Did you go the mp3 route, or what?

1. Heard song,
2. Thought it could use violin
3. Recorded violin
4. Sent an mp3 to Chris

It was really that simple, Chris did the rest.

Thanks all for the groovy comments.

damn.. this is the first time I hear this song..
wow.. wow.. WOW..!

Another Thread ?????!!!!

Harris ... in my office now ! ;)

no worries mate .. just check your pm's

Do you use some kind of loudness maximizer on your mixes? This is really loud...sounds great, it's just loud. Not a complaint, just a question...I've never used one because I keep hearing how they distort if you use too much etc...but this sounds great.

Sounds like you may have brought the harmonies up too....good...
It's a delicate trick, isn't it, balancing harmonies...

No complaints....sounded great!

Hey Sluice. I'm weaning myself off of the L-1, and I haven't used any sonic maximizers in quite a few tunes, b/c I just cannot get a handle on the "less is more" concept.

Lately, I've been using more compression on individual tracks so that I can just mix everything down as hot as possible. Then I do some low cuts and just look at the .wav file to see how much limiting it can handle before it starts chopping off wave peaks. I guess maybe I've gotten better at being able to tell how much of a boost it needs, but if I give it too much, you can see it...it's got that 2X4 look. So I just 'undo' it and take another shot at limiting with a lower db output.

I'm kinda' floored you asked, lol. (YEESSSSS!!!) :D

(now, if somebody could tell me how to fix my HUGE sibilance problem without compressing all the SSSsss's to the point of distortion, I'd really appreciate it) - that's why I think my vocals sound like they're distorting a lot..

I struggled with this for ages ... solution .. get a new mic :(
perhaps you could start by detailing your signal chain ?

Previously AKGC3000 thru Lexicon FX unit (for gain) to soundcard (SBLive).

Recently Studio Projects C-1 through DMP3 pre to Delta, (I can't remember the number right now...cheaper card)

Oh, and I think it's me, b/c live I've always had a HUGE problem with it...SM58's, doesn't matter.

I'm very sibilant. So is my poor daughter. Of all the things to inherit, LOL
