A trashed Marshall Cab

I bought a used Marshall cab last December in mint condition, and had it here in my apartment for a while, but it was taking up a lot of space. A friend borrowed it for a few gigs, and then left it at another friend's practice space for the past two months or so. It was left in the corner facing backwards against the wall to protect the speakers, and that was the last I heard.

Two days ago he went to pick it up for me for an upcoming gig, and there was a huge hole right through the bottom left area of the grillclothe, and right through the speaker as well!!! In all my years of playing live and touring, I've never seen that amount of damage to a cab - it has to have been an intentional thing as far as I'm concerned. SOMEONE in that space (there are two bands) has to know something ... but no one is fessing up! (My friend has offered to pay for the damages even though he doesn't know what happened - he's taking responsibility because he borrowed it from me). I just wanted to get some opinions - what would YOU do in this kind of situaion?

Take the money and fix the cab. You will never know for sure what happened and now you know not to leave anything there.

that blows man. i know what its like loaning something out as a favor only having to track it back down through multiple people with much pain.

just be glad that your friend is responsible enough to realize it is HIS problem to return the cab to you the way you lent it in the first place.

or you can sell it and get a mesa boogie 4x12 cab with side armor. it will be less prone to damage, and it will be so damn heavy that nobody will bother borrowing it :D

That's why I never lend anything to anyone for any reason EVER!!!

Regardless of how it happened, he's responsible ...... take the money.

Hey dude, man I'm running into KS people all over the place today ! Sorry to here about your cab ahhrr take the money and run ! And don't let them near any other bits of your kit !

Thanks for the replies, and no ... I definitely won't be lending my gear out anymore!

Lending out gear

i think you should let people borrow your gear to a certain extent, what if you needed a cab and no one would let you use it? if you have the money to fix it, then just go ahead, but if hes willing to pay.. maybe meet him half way?

I've never had a single problem in the past lending gear to people I know, but I still think I'll take a break from it ... for a while anyway. :-)
