I want to record mere speech, and therefore do not want to spend a lot of money. The most commonly recommended cheap mic for vocals is the SM57. I am assuming that mics good for vocals are good for speech. Everyone says condenser mics are much better at vocals. The only condenser mic as cheap as the SM57 is the A-T MB4000C. Which would be better for recording speech indoors?

IMHO, any condenser, small or large diaphram, would do a better job on spoken word than a dynamic mic (except maybe a RE-20 but if you could afford that, this wouldn't be an issue). If you could go another $100 above the cost of a 57 you can pick up a decent large diaphram condenser that would do very well for spoken word.
