Well...how would a few 2020s do for acoustic guitar/vocals/drum OH/guitar cab/bass cab/room mic...Just woundering how well this mic can accomplish things...

Hopefully when I get 2 of these I could do all of those things with it.

it'll get the job done better than a lot of mics in the price range. i suggest you save another $100 and opt for the 4040, it's got some features that definitely come in handy with the applications you are talking about (pad and roll-off). If you can't afford two (like me), buy one and just save. i think it's worth it.

It's on the bright side and has an airiness that reminds me of the AKG 414, with a different sonic character, of course . Because of it's brightness, it's well suited for background vocals and doesn't have the proximity effect of many condensor mics, which works well on acoustic instruments and light percussion, where you don't want a boomy bass or boxy sound when getting in close.

I like the way this mic sits in a mix, without any EQ, especially on acoustic gtr. Though I'm not a big fan of budget mics, I like this one and also the MXL V76. Great value.

Regards.

Another vote for going with a 4040 for second one in the future saving. I think you'll be much more pleased in the long haul. :)

Well thank you all...one more question...what are your thoughts towards the 3035?

Justa, I haven't owned any AT mics, but I've been using two Studio Project B1 mics. It's a real workhorse for a $99 mic, and I particularly like its rather flat sonic character--what I put in front of of it comes out with very little change. This quality helps me use it comfortably with everything I need (mainly stringed instruments) in my small home studio. I just play around with mic placement
until I get the sound I'm searching for. Works very well.

If you're not set on an AT, then search this forum and you'll find much too much written about the SP B1, mostly very positive. The British magazine "sound-on-sound" also ran a very pos review of this mic a couple of months ago. It's a low-cost, but effective solution for us serious home hobbyists, and I never hestitate to recommend it.

Good luck,
J.

did you get the 2020? i am in the same situation as you and im curious which ones youve tried...
