Great job with the harmonies and the mix is very well done!

I don't have to understand the words to get the mood!

Well done Pedullist!

Guernica: I'm doing all vocals on this one. The chain of the lead guitar? Hamer > Korg AX1000G > Audigy. :) I've replaced my Korg with a Pod, but I'm too lazy to retrack the guitarparts. Plus, I kinda like the sound. The tracks are called 'fake Brian May1, fake Brian May2, fake Brian May3', hahahaha! :D

skids: yeah, given the other responses I think I can get away with a tiny short reverb. Female vocals....I should find myself a lesbian singer then!

TripleM: good pop sound? You mean, you heard the usual pops but they're finally good this time? LOL :D

B.SABBATH: Thanks! You know, I'm really starting to dislike these modern superloud mixes. And since I don't have to compete with other stuff on the radio anyway I just mix it without using maximizers. Just turn your own volume up. :) A few days ago I read this and it's pretty sickening, the current state of mastering... :)

scottboyher: Yeah, this board proves music is universal. And I keep getting amazed by the openmindness (is that a word?) of this board.

christiaan: Dankje! Ja, het nieuwe plaatje is bijna klaar...nou ja eind van dit jaar denk ik. Ben altijd toch een beetje te perfectionistisch enzo.

Pedullist,

I finally get a chance to listen here again! Having dial-up at home is really a pain in the butt...glad my buddy is got DSL:)

This IS a sunny song, I don't have monitors to judge the mix, but sounds fine on home stereo, and nothing jumps out or anything, maybe a little more dynamic overall would add seomthing to this, but maybe sunny songs don't need that:D

good job, man
have you considered or have recorded anything in English?

Ha ha. I have a quota. I need to get the word 'pop' in every 3rd post or the ban me. :)

No pops. Just a good pop music feel to the song.

I'm so used to not being able to follow lyrics versus the vocal timbre that this sounds like english to me.. You're right it IS poppy, it is so poppy that I wouldn't suggest taking a drug test afterwards because the seeds of poppy will make you fail uhm yah whatever that joke was stupid. But glad to see you're still here crankin em out. Short skirts = good.

Real nice tune. You use way too many chords! :) The bass sounds real good. A fretless? Harmonies are great. As far as humanizing the drums, I don't think that works. I think it's more about the sample.

Great tune!

"A dickster zone chain April and I look as the pains we're goin naked... huh? And cake to fade our want...??? ... and mine heart felt sick...and open all the Monistat...???"

Dooood.... let's work on those lyrics  :(

Nice acoustic... sweet, kicky rhythm. The snare sounds smallish... the drums are ... well... the rhythm section isn't a strong point ;)

Good, good arrangement. Would like a bit more bite out of the distorted guits. (just a tiny bit).... pretty good balance... at least according to Sennheiser HD280.

Nice background vocals... great harmony. Bass sounds great... vocal tracks are clean... (yes... this is very dry.... but not badly so) Nice guitars during the break...

A kewl... song... any chance for an Igjleeis version? (btw Igjleeis's a total guess at the word "English" in Holland-aise :))

Now....gotta ask... do you have to spit after you sing that? :D

Nicely done. Three listens worth.

Khompewtur: Well...I kinda liked the joke...:)

macle: too many chords? There are limits? LOL I wake up with this stuff...can't do anything about it. :)

Bass is fretted. And I'm still convinced I can fix the drums...

participant: ROFL! Hey, I smell a challenge....HRC5....cover a Pedullist song!......I'd love to hear you guys struggling to sing dutch. Maybe then you'll understand why I don't like singing in english...(I'll cover something back in english of course)

More bite out of the guitars, I should be able to do that as I DIDN'T USE ANY EQUALISERS YET! (there is a compressor on the lead vocals and there's a phaser on a harmony somewhere I accidently applied so it's permanently there until I retrack it, but as for the rest...it's dry as hell) :)

That's right. I didn't even mix this properly. It's the monitormix (that explains the loud lead vocals, it was the last track I recorded). I posted this because I have a feeling I destroy my music simply by mixing them. I mean, perhaps I'm always using more fx than I should. Given the responses, this 'non-mix' isn't bad at all.

So thanks!!!

pretty interesting article.. thanks.. It almost makes me want to stop using the L1..

almost! :D

Ya!

Drum track is maybe a little flaky in the chorus and bridge sections.

Awesome sounds to this, in fact all of your stuff I've heard has that same well tracked and together sound to it.

It almost sounds fine without any verb. I'd suggest keeping it on the slim side.

So...this is what Tjarko sounds like naked and humble--well naked anyway:D . I love good pop songs and you write good pop songs-this is one. You ever listen to Frank Black?? You do chord progressions the way he does-very interesting it meanders but resolves and makes good sense. Oh well I cant see the questions you want specifically answered so a few observations.

--drums arent driving the tune-snare and cymbals need to come up or eq some high end into them maybe.

---I think some verb would be cool on the LV

---maybe another guitar doing single note or arpeggios during the verse to accent the cool changes some more???though you add this kind of guitar in the chorus-maybe it would take away from the dynamics. Actually I think it would be perfect on the suspended chord-right before you turn the verse around--am i making sense here-baaah who gives a damn

---cool guitar solo section-i think doubling uo the kick drum on the off beats would be cool.

----some of the high voices towards the end sound off-cant tell if they seem necessary or not...

----I wish I knew what the words meant-I read where Fprod said it sounds like a bike ride through town-some "special effects" of things passing by on this bike ride were popping into my head as I listened--get your wife to do some talking parts maybe???:D

---Thats about it--very cool as usual Tjarko!

very nice........i love the vocal recording.......i would even give the distortion more presence in the mix when it comes in....it seems that with a little more volume, it could have a little more impact.........other than that, i think everything is great.....good leads too

BUMP!

LOL!:D

Nice chord changes!

Wish I could understand the words, but the mood is there. Knowing the subject matter, it does bring up images of summers working in Malibu.......

Very nice tune peddulist :) I could swear there were some english sounding words in there , something about a something blowing at 10, then my heart @21 maybe? Drums sounded good to my deaf ears :) I havent heard a hihat in a mix in years though :(.

Nice overall mix to me

Peace
Bill

CUTE SONG !

YAY !!! , the vocal is mixed LOUD, excellent.

I would put a tiny, tiny bit of reverb on the lead vocal and a very short delay, industry standard.

In the Chorus, I would increase the delay time just a bit on the lead vocal, for even greater contrast between the two parts. Gives us the feeling of 'falling' into the chorus, draws us in, creates space.

The backup vocals are fine, maybe just a touch of reverb, small room, ambient.

Harmony vocals could be a touch louder in the beginning, just a little, maybe.

When the harmony vocals appear by themselves, make them much louder and apply lots of delay, they are the lead instrument at that point, don't hide them from us, knock us down with them, they are a hook. Harmony vocals. by themselves especially. are gold.

If you gargle with beer ... you can get that annoying popcorn kernal that's stuck on your uvula washed down bro !!! ;-)

This is a really, really cute song and they should be playing it on the radio in the Netherlands for sure man.

Overall it's a great mix with respect to instrument levels and vocal levels. It's a little dry, whatever you do, just add very, very little effects.

The tune could be mastered well by applying the mastering EQ by shelving the mids and upper mids up a db or two, make it hotter in the upper mids ... for radio.

This is a keeper for me, now if you could just get rid of that english accent you've picked up on ....

Doug H: I'm currently reprogramming the drumpart. Thanks!

Stratomaster: Yeah, I know Frank Black. Sonja (my wife) is a huge Pixies fan. You want more guitars? It's already a lot! About the high voices...hey, I don't have your vocal range, buddy! It's hard for me to hit those high ones! It's mixed tiny bit too loud, and I didn't sing it well enough. I know. I will retrack all harmonies, especially for you. And I'm not kiddin'...(I do give a damn')

powderfinger: thanks! But eh, distortion? What distortion?

M.Brane: thanks for bumping...I already declared the thread dead (but I hadn't seen the new responses by Doug H and Stratomaster yet) ....and holland is JUST LIKE Malibu man....exactly the same. LOL :D

wfaraoni: some words in dutch are almost the same in english. Remember...'even old New York was once New Amsterdam, why they changed it I can't say, people liked it better that way' (quote from Istanbul, Not Constantinople by They Might Be Giants)

studioviols: thanks! I'll see what I can do...the only thing that'll work are short reverbs and short delays IMO. Anything long will mudify (is that a word? ;) the song too much. O, and I'm not aiming for radio play. I'm only aiming for mass popularity on this mp3 mixing board. Which is like....80 peope? More than enough for me. No, I'm kiddin'...I'm not even aiming for mass popularity on the board. It's just a cool hobby. Plus: if don't record the songs I hear in my head, I get nuts.

I'll promise I'll work on my accent.... ;)

And I only gargle with wine btw...here's a pic:
