A simple question about mixer to pc setup

Alright what i really just want to know is what is the name of the cable connection used to connect a Mixer to a soundcard.

A buddy of mine has a Allen and Heath 16:2 mixer and its quite nice. We wanted to eventually try and record some demo stuff on our own. How would we go about connecting it to the pc to utilize all 16 channels of the mixer.

For example, When recording drums we want to get snare kick and whatnot on different tracks in Sonar to do adjustments. Im not a complete newb at recording but I dont have experience with very technical and expensive pieces of equipment, so any help would be appreciated.

It depends on what sort of inputs your soundcard has.

If it has 1/4" inputs, and your mixer has direct outs or inserts, you just need an ordinary 1/4" cable. If the sound card has rca inputs, you'll also need a 1/4"-rca convertor jack
 
ok I need some help. I am trying to hook up my mixer to my laptop so I can record my mixes to cd. What connections am I going to need. Any help will do.
 
You will not be able to get seperate Tracks in Sonar for every input on the Mixer ...At best you will get a Mixed stereo signal, If you want to have seperate tracks for every input on the mixer you will first have to have a Mixer that has either Direct outs or inserts for every Channel and you will need a sound Card/Interface that has as many Inputs as your Mixer has Direct outs or Inserts....

Most good mixers (And even not so good) will have Outs for every Pre-amped channel so a Card like the Delta 1010 would be good as it has I believe 8 or 10 inputs which are 1/4 inputs.....

So you are going to need a Multi-channel Sound Card/Interface first as a regular Sound card will not let you record more than a Stereo signal....
