I was bored last night so I decided to layer some vocals and loop them. I started playing around with reverb, delay and EQ. Added a beat and adjusted the timing of the vocals to match the beat (it still needs to be a little tighter in a few spots, I think). There are about 10 tracks of vocals here. I had 13 to start with (some additional low end harmonies) but I cut them because they made it sound too muddy. I tried to keep enough of the vocals to cover a decent spectrum of sound and keep it sounding rich. Did a little creative panning and volume automation to highlight some parts. Then I polished it all up with a reverb and EQ veneer. I think it came out pretty good.

Thoughts, suggestions, criticisms?

Pretty tough to fully critique with just a clip which doesn't vary a whole lot. I'm assuming it will go somewhere as it progresses. I think you certainly have something here worth working with, and I'm wondering if the polishing took some edge off it, which might have been beneficial because you are bordering sterile with the current mix. A danger with a lot of vocal treatment is having it become too enveloped, especially heavily compressed, multi layered passages. This is a decent platform to underpin a lead vocal which maybe hooks onto the recurring theme. Overall the mix would benefit from a bit more grunt. I like your creativity and look forward to hearing how you progress with it.

Thanks

Tim
